Bathroom Cafe – The Attendant

The Attendant

The ornate black curlicues and black tiles that welcoe you inside Attendant prove that with the right attitude, anything at all can be restored. Reincarnated from a Victorian era public toilet built around 1890, this tiny venue fell into disuse for over 50 years before management saw an opportunity to transform the interior into a beautiful espresso bar.

The gorgeous tiles are original and the porcelain urinals have been cleverly converted to coffee benches that’ll give you something to chat about as you sip your brew. The walls are adorned with interesting framed newspaper clippings and the wait staff are far more attentive than you’d expect for a busy London coffee joint.

Famed for charming breakfasts, brunches and late afternoon teas, Attendant doesn’t take itself too seriously. With daily produce coming fresh from New Covent Garden Market, the staff whip up gorgeous dishes in the their tiny kitchen and serve up light meals and deli classics that are surprisingly good.

Pop in for a sweet little breakfast bowl of almond milk porridge in the morning, or try any of their baked-daily muffins, cheese souffles, generous stacks of vanilla infused French toast, crispy pastries, croissants, cakes, handmade granola and seasonal fruit. If you find yourself in this compact little venue later on in the day, indulge in one of their super fresh and fragrant soups with a hearty wedge of fresh brioche baked that morning, salads, cold meat and cheese platters or delicate Mediterranean inspired vegetable dishes.

The restaurant is wee, to say the least, but don’t let that stop you from giving them a call if you have a bigger function to organize. They put together quaint platters and cater to all sorts of party functions and events. Chat to management the next time you want no-fuss catering for a baby shower, work function or simply if you’d like a dozen or two of their vodka and kahlua brownies for the office.
